Ryuei
  • BtVS watcher since: Saw the movie (amusing but not much more than that) and just for a lark watched the first episode of Buffy on t.v. It was a lot better than I thought. I watched intermittently until season two. But as soon as Spike showed up and said, "From now on we're going to have a little less ritual and a little more fun around here." I was hooked.
  • Hanging out at the ATPoBtVS Posting board since: I don't remember dates, but I know I was ATPoBtVS/AtS before the Posting Board, so I was on it from the very begnning.
  • Origin of posting name: S used to stand for Shami which is the Japanese word for a Buddhist novice. Now that I am a full priest, I guess it can stand for Sensei. Ryuei is the Dharma name which my sensei gave me when I was ordained as a novice. His name is the Ven. Ryusho Matsuda, so I was given one character from his name - Ryu which means Dragon and also the character Ei which means English/Splendor/Heroic. So my Dharma name means Dragon of English or Dragonly Splendor or even Heroic Dragon. But actually my sensei intended the first one since he wants me to communicate the Dharma to the English speaking world.
  • Age / species / day-job: 35 / Human / File Clerk
  • Most memorable BtVS/AtS quote: There are so many too choose from, but the one that I'm still chuckling over to this day is Lindsey's line, "Boo hoo. Let me wipe away the tears with my plastic hand."
  • Favorite philosopher: Nagarjuna, the 2nd-3rd century founder of the Madhyamika. The Madhyamikans are masters of the reducio ad absurdum. I am also rather partial to Occam's razor, Hume's wrecking ball and other tools of metaphysical mayham.
  • TTMQ: 10
  • Strangest thread topic ever posted: The one about how vampires are created with a built in martial arts package. Pity that was before the archives.
  • Coolest thread topic ever posted: I am rather fond of the rant I did where I tied in Angel's mid-second season crises with St. Augustine, Shinran, Pelagianism, Sartre, and a few others.
  • Why I love this board more than unlife itself: Because this board has consistently been the home of some of the best quality threads and most civilized, profound, and thoughtful posters that I have seen anywhere on the Net. It sure beats any of the other religion boards where I post and/or lurk. Gassho (bowing in respect) to all of you.
