  • BtVS watcher since: Had just missed seeing OWMF, so roughly November 2002. First ep ever was Hush in an FX rerun—caught my attention. Became addicted shortly thereafter. You know, like you do.
  • Hanging out at the ATPoBtVS Posting board since: Lurking intermittently since March 2002, Began posting October/November 2002. I’m a little slow on the uptake ;)
  • Origin of posting name: "Haecceity (n.)From the Latin: 1. The quality of a thing that makes it unique or describable as 'this (one)' 2. Individual. Thisness; the property that uniquely distinguishes each individual thing from others of its kind. Introduced by John Duns Scoutus [13th Century Oxford Philosopher] as a name for the individuating essence of any particular. The term has been used more recently [in mod. philosophy, yes, but also in, funny enough, quantum physics] in connection with the view that a rigidly designated individual can exist in each of many possible worlds." Pronounced Heks-see-itty.
Came across the concept in my reading re: synchronicity and its applications in super string theory, loved it, and in attempting to find more info via the internet, stumbled onto a link to ATPoBtVS/AtS on a narrative theory blog where they were engaged in a big "Is *this* a Haecceity?" Fest. When it came time to brave the waters and jump into posting, I thought this an appropriate screen name.
  • Age / species / day-job: An extremely immature 27, female specimen of homo whimsicalus, Cinematographer/Computer-Generated Animation Specialist (in that the animation is computer-generated, not me ;)/ Part-Time Research Assistant/Soon-to-be Grad Student in Visual Narrative Studies
  • Most memorable BtVS/AtS quote: For Staying In—“I come from the Imagination/ And I’m here strictly by your Invocation/ So what do you say? Why don’t we dance awhile?” For Going Out—“Whoa! Summers, you drive like a spaz!” (Can’t help it, makes milk squirt out my nose every single time!...you know, when I happen to be drinking milk and watching Band Candy. Not just randomly. Whenever there’s milk and someone to say the line just right, how’s that?)
For Laughs—Buffy: “What’s Wrong with Buffy?” Giles (not missing a beat): “Such a good question.”
For Posting Here—Angel:”It lacks poetry”. Spike: “Doesn’t have to. Let’s see, what rhymes with lungs?”
  • Favorite philosopher: e.e. cummings, Hobbes (as in fuzzy tiger, not fussy thinker), Terry Pratchett, R.W. Emerson, Eddie Izzard—You know, anyone decadent and highly huggable. And with at least one E in their name.
  • TTMQ: Thinks too much about what? ‘Cause it would depend on the subject, wouldn’t it? If you mean about BtVS: Definitely a 10. Something like metaphysics in the movies: Still up there at a 9 or so. Why there’s something inherently funny about chickens and that if you could genetically cross a chicken and a monkey you’d get a creature of pure comedy (Plus—“Chunky”. Pretty giggle-worthy.) Worth at least a 7.8 on this scale, considering that I’ve actually spent at least several hours wondering about it. On the other hand, if you’re talking about stuff like My Place in the Rat Race/Anything Eminently Practical: About a 1.2. And something like Differential Calculus: Is there a possibility of a negative number on this scale?
  • Strangest thread topic ever posted: Well, I’m a classicist and haven’t gotten through enough of the archives to contradict the canon (i.e. really lazy and following the consensus of the herd [possibly a long-lost 3rd cousin of dream of the consortium?]), so I’ll go with the shower fungus thread. Though if you mean “what’s the weirdest thread you’ve written”, it’d have to be the Existential Scoobie Snacks cookbook nonsense. I mean, “Angel Investigations’ Oedipal Chex Mix”, people! And I always thought the Land Shark thing had nice thematic unity.
  • Coolest thread topic ever posted: Shadowkat’s essays, OnM’s reviews, Age’s “non-Oppositional BtVS/AtS similarities”, Honorificus’s Super Evil and Sartorials, Anytime a troll’s thread gets recycled for a higher (or haiku-er) purpose (in a continuing redemption theme), everyone’s daily brilliance. The AtPoBtVS Musical was pretty rippin’ cool.
  • Why I love this board more than unlife itself: “There is set before us for general use a bowl of myths and stories combined. And where could one meet with more kindly listeners for testing these stories?” –Plutarch. Plus, who else in their right minds would encourage (much less allow) me to ramble on at such lengths?
