Relationships in the Buffyverse (slight spoilers end os season six and season seven) -- Purple Tulip, 07:43:58 06/18/02 Tue

This is really nothing of great importance, just something that I found interesting, and that I'm sure has been noted before. I was watching I Robot, You Jane this morning, the only one from season one that I haven't seen yet, and I found Buffy's closing statement to be interesting. She said, of her Willow and Xander, "So this means that none of us will ever have a happy, normal relationship." This statement has proven true in the five seasons since then. Eventhough Willow has only had two relationships (Oz and Tara), neither of them turned out well with Oz leaving and Tara dying. And the fact that one was with a warewolf and one with a witch, deffinately reinforces the not normal aspect that Buffy was talking about. Xander has deffinately not had any normal relationships, as he crushed on his teacher ("Teacher's Pet") who turned out to be a giant bug, the mummy girl ("Inca Mummy Girl"), Cordelia who was normal, so to speak, but he did not have a happy relationship with her, as they fought all the time, and of course there's Anya, the love of his life who just happens to be a vengeance demon- and we all know how that one turned out. And of course, Buffy- the one with the most screwed up love life. First, there's Angel, a vampire with a soul who single-handedly caused her more pain and heart-ache than any of her other men. Then there's Scott Hope, the only nice, absolutely normal boy she dated and he just wasn't enough to make her happy. At college, she has that thing with Parker, that gigantic ass-hole of a man, and her love affair with Riley, neither of which ended real well. And most recently, Spike. Now I really like the pairing of Buffy and Spike, but the relationship, if you can even call it that, is not happy, and deffinately not normal. I think he might be representing her hitting bottom in the male department, as he seems to be the most flawed of any her men, with him not even having a soul when they are together.

I don't know where exactly I'm going with this, but I just thought that it was interesting that the three of them seemed to live up to the prophecy that Buffy made six years ago. I guess my question is, will they continue on this track next season? Will any of them have a series ending romance, and finally get it right? With Joss's "back to the beginning" theme for next season, I wonder if the relationship thing will be present at all, of if they will just be focusing on the slayer, her pals, and her origin.

[> Re: Relationships in the Buffyverse (slight spoilers end os season six and season seven) -- JCC, 08:30:02 06/18/02 Tue

Don't forget Giles. Jenny was killed by Angelus and Olivia wasn't able to deal with the extreme circumstances of his life as Watcher.
It's much the same with AI. Apart from Fred/Gunn of course.

[> not yet -- skeeve, 08:48:38 06/18/02 Tue

Xander and Anya's relationship hasn't necessarily turned out yet. All that is necessary for them to get back together is for Xander to get more precise about why he left and for Anya to explain to Xander what will happen to him if he turns into his father, whether or not she has demon powers.

Let's suppose the X and A decide that they do want to get married.

Should Anya give up her powers? It should be noted that doing so would drastically decrease her life expectancy. It seems to me that there are two important issues: Would Anya be physically able to avoid granting wishes if she wanted. Would she want to grant wishes, i.e. does the personality follows form principle apply to vengeance demons? Remember the personality changes that occured when Giles was demonized and Olaf was trollized.

What did Anya mean when she said that normally she would `have to' go to vengeance-Willow? Was it just what was expected of her, or would she have been physically unable to resist? If physically unable to resist, would she have had to grant a wish? The conversation with Halfrek about Spike's prospective wish suggests considerable choice. Also, if Anya had to go to everyone feeling vengeful, she might be spread a little thin. I think the answer is that even with her powers, Anya has a choice.

That leaves the potential personality change. We have little information on how long it took Olaf to adjust. Giles's change took less than a day, but might have been aggravated by his inability to communicate. The evidence available to us isn't definitive, but Anya might know. I thinks it's clear that if her demon powers won't affect her personality, she needn't give them up and that if they will, she should give them up. What should she do if she doesn't know?

[> Re: Relationships in the Buffyverse (slight spoilers end os season six and season seven) -- DL, 09:32:52 06/18/02 Tue

Normally, I lurk. Today, I speak.

I'm a big fan of "to know the future you must study the past." So going back to revisit Seasons 1 and 2 on DVD is a great thing to do, and you bring up a point worth mentioning.

"So this means that none of us will ever have a happy, normal relationship."

At the time, Buffy was talking about romance. In that sense, I think that maybe the Hellmouth and the Slayer's duties in regard to it never will allow them to be fulfilled in that sense. They are all listed in the original post. Buffy ends up fulfilling her duties before her own interests in every relationship, I think. Willow (I think) truly loves Tara, but she's taken away. As noted in another post, Ms. Calendar is taken away from Giles.

Xander and Anya hasn't been played out fully, and aside from the entire vengeance demon issue, don't many relationships deal with cold feet, fidelity, and the likes? I hope this relationship turns out well, but the Hellmouth seems to say "no." (As far as continuing this stuff next season, Willow has lost her lover (grief process I'd assume), but X/A have to deal, and B/S have to deal as well. It's got to be present.)

However, in the other sense of LOVE (not romantic, but the end of Season 6 Xander Love) the relationships between Buffy, Xander, Willow, Giles are as happy and fulfilling as can be (keeping the Hellmouth in mind). We all have to deal with two million tasks each day in life, so we often overlook just how much the love you have for your friends means to you. When our friends need it, though, we sacrifice ourselves for them. With the exception of Spike, each of the Gang does so for Willow. If they didn't have healthy, fulfilling relationships with each other (meaning that they didn't care for each other), everything literally goes to Hell.

[> [> Anya in Season 7 (spoilers through S6 & speculation) -- Just George, 17:51:31 06/18/02 Tue

I suspect that ME is setting us up for Anya to renounce her powers and her "demonhood". Her statement to Giles at the end of Grave about what fueled Willow's rampage ("and vengeance, don't forget vengeance") foreshadows her own coming to terms with the costs of vengeance. I suspect that much as Spike had to ask for a soul to move along on his road to redemption, Anya must renounce vengeance to advance on hers.

I can see a scene in Season 7 where Anya will be confronted with the negative results of granting a wronged woman her "vengeance wish." Before hanging with Xander and the SG Anya would not have blinked an eye at causing massive personal harm. But now, she will be unhappy causing such harm and will renounce her position as a vengeance demon.

Pure speculation, of course. Knowing ME the confrontation between Anya's "demon calling" and her "emerging human conscience" will be messier and more personal.

Season 2 question...Old topic...(s2 spoilers, obviously!) -- Rob, 08:58:04 06/18/02 Tue

Just finished the amazing Season 2 DVD Set! And I am sooo ready for the third season, I could scream...but that's besides the point.

Thought I'd just raise a question here that has probably been discussed to death.

What inspired Angel to give up going after Buffy in particular, and destroy the world instead? Was it an ultimate-revenge type dealie where he would destroy the thing that she had been chosen to save? Or, at that point, did he not want to harm Buffy in particular any more? Spike, in IOHEFY, had been saying that Angel didn't seem so bent on harming Buffy as he had earlier in the year. What changed him, if this is true?

Any thoughts?

Rob

[> Re: Season 2 question...Old topic...(s2 spoilers, obviously!) -- maddog, 15:18:06 06/18/02 Tue

I'd say it was a combination of opportunity and his character. I doubt he knew all along that the Akafla(sp?) was coming...so that's just taking advantage of an opportunity. But he's always wanted a land of demons. He seems like he might have been one of the baddest vamps ever to grace this show. So he'd want to go for the kill of everyone. See, I always thought he was toying with Buffy. That never seemed overly important to him.

[> [> Re: Season 2 question...Old topic...(s2 spoilers, obviously!) -- Finn Mac Cool, 16:11:48 06/18/02 Tue

Spike's vision of harming Buffy was a forthright killing of her. Meanwhile, Angel wanted to torment her. However, that's a dangerous game, since he can only play with her suffering for so long before she gets the opportunity and the stomach to kill him. But, wait, what's this? Acathla will suck the world into hell? Hey, that means Buffy will be suffering for eternity along with everyone else! I get her tortured for all eternity while she can't kill me! Yeah!

[> Really interesting question, Rob. Maybe it was a combination of factors? -- Ixchel, 18:46:13 06/18/02 Tue

I don't believe he had lost interest in Buffy. I think his depth of feeling for her was the same as when he had a soul, but converted into a form acceptable to his negative aspect (and, apparently, the Judge). IMHO, he had wanted to draw out defeating her (killing her) to torture her, but (on some level) he realized he was losing control of the situation. The advantage he had over her (her reluctance to kill him) was wearing away. Perhaps he recognized (subconsciously) that he couldn't defeat her, that she _would_ win?

He couldn't tolerate that, just as he couldn't bear her having power over him, which she still did because he was so focused on her (IMHO, he is lying in Becoming 1 when he says it was never about her, it very much was). In a way, just as loving her shaped his existence before he lost his soul, so did obsessing about her after. He could have simply left SD (as a more sensible, pre-soul, pre-Buffy Angelus would, presumably, have done), I doubt she would've left the Hellmouth to track him down. But, he _couldn't_ leave, he had to break her hold on him. And, if he couldn't maintain control, well, he could kill her, the whole world and free himself from _her_ (he talks about being free in Becoming 1 and 2, part of the ritual, but important, IMHO). I also wonder how long he thought he'd last with the _real_ demons in "hell" (Mayor-type ones) and if he even cared at that point.

Also, in keeping with my idea that the soul (mostly) enhances and/or enables the positive aspect of a personality (while supressing and/or hindering the negative aspect) and that being a vampire/demon (mostly) does the opposite, but that all the potentialities still exist within, maybe, he was becoming a little crazed? That his positive aspect, weak against his negative aspect without the support of the soul, was still there? That what had been thoroughly crushed and/or warped by his vampire needs, twisted emotions and Darla's careful teachings still made itself heard? Not enough, of course, to make him less "evil", but enough to make him unstable? He talks about being cleansed (of "good"?), which is part of the ritual, but he also felt "unclean" after the possession of IOHEFY. Could he have felt contaminated by whatever he had felt (still, in some strange way, was feeling) with a soul? Was this enough to make a vampire, who had previously rejected the slavish devotions of the Order of Aurelius in favor of his "artistic" kills and personal pleasures, want to basically bring the world to "hell" (close enough, I would think, to bringing "hell" to the world as the Master wanted), where he wouldn't control anything? Was he, possibly, unstable enough that he wanted this last semblance of power over everything (particularly Buffy and his feelings about her) no matter what the ultimate cost to himself?

Just my musings on your very thought provoking question...

Ixchel

[> [> Re: Really interesting question, Rob. Maybe it was a combination of factors? -- auroramama, 21:05:02 06/18/02 Tue

At the beginning of IOHEFY, I can't tell whether Angelus has decided it's more fun (and safer) to cuddle with Drusilla and torment Spike than to play with Buffy, or what. But I do think what happened in IOHEFY spooked him. Drusilla told him it was time to go get Buffy. So he went after her, and he ends up being "violated" by love. He comes home and tries to scrub it off his skin like Willow after her first visit to Rack. Suddenly this isn't so funny anymore. After that he's all about pure, unstained evil.

[> [> [> Timeline... -- Rob, 21:43:35 06/18/02 Tue

Passion--Angel kills Jenny Calendar; Buffy finally resolves to kill him

Killed by Death--Angel comes after Buffy, in her weakened state, but is warded off by her friends

I Only Have Eyes for You--Angel is "corrupted" by the true love of James and Grace--realizes, by connotation, what a strong adversary Buffy might actually be, having been a scorned lover...perhaps realizes, just as James shot Grace, that Buffy could potentially harm him

Go Fish--Angel tries to turn a swim-team guy into a vamp--says that he's recruiting for vamps to attack Buffy, and the fact that this guy already hates her is a plus--we see him here trying to find other ways of offing Buffy without having to do it himself (?)...but doesn't get to do it b/c of the steroids in the blood

Becoming--realizing he can't kill Buffy, and that killing her friends would just make her even more dangerous, he decides to destroy the world, due the pain he feels from his obsession with Buffy and recent feelings of love from IOHEFY being in conflict with his vampiric nature...even tries to tell Buffy that it was never about her, to try to overcompensate for the fact that he hasn't killed her. Even when he has Giles kidnapped, it is not to bring Buffy to him, but to get info on how to destroy the world.

So it all really does make sense. Thanks to all for your insights!

[> [> I just made a huge response to your post, and lost ALL of it...Grr aargh! (spoilers for "Grave") -- Rob, 21:29:59 06/18/02 Tue

Sorry...I really wish I could have posted what I'd written, but I didn't think to save...and my computer froze...and grr aargh! Again!

And now I have to go to bed...

Just to quickly sum up, I totally agree with you. You raised some really thought-provoking points, about how the Grace-ghost from IOHEFY might have influenced Angelus, as well as the idea that his own revenge/psychological torture scheme against Buffy might have backfired against his will when it did not weaken her, but only strengthened her resolve to fight him...and it would make sense that a Slayer who had been so wronged by him would be even harder to fight than before, especially with a resolve as strong as Buffy's. In many ways, killing Jenny Calendar was the dumbest thing Angelus could have done, because that sealed the deal--Buffy, due to that action, was fully prepared to kill Angel.

Also, since Buffy and Angel retained their memories from IOHEFY, remember, in that episode, Buffy (James) shot Angel (Grace), out of anger for him (her) leaving her (him--confused much yet? lol)...This scene may have reminded Angelus (1) what it was like to be so in love and (2) how dangerous a "wronged" Buffy might be. In that episode, Buffy, although possessed by a ghost, was able to yell at Angel and confront him for leaving her and treating her so cruelly.

If your theory is right about Angel deciding to end the world to stop suffering, it would tie in nicely with Willow's reasons for destroying the world. The difference, of course, being that Willow, after having internalized her pain over Tara's death, decided to externalize it on a global scale by destroying the world to stop everybody from suffering. She actually thought she was helping the "poor bastards"; Angelus, on the other hand, wanted to end the world to stop only his own suffering, the hell with the rest of the people (literally). Of course, Willow was also really driven by her own suffering; her wish to stop others' pain was merely her attempt to fool herself. But that's a whole other issue altogether...

Anyway, hope this response made sense, since it was cobbled together from half-remembered ideas of a much better structured and all-together more eloquent post (relatively lol) that unfortunately was lost into the ether!

Covert to overt. -- Darby, 09:24:52 06/18/02 Tue

So I'm watching the S2 DVD and Marti Noxon mentions that Reptile Boy involves "frat boys who derive their power from a giant snake in the basement," and I'm thinking, duh! How could I not have seen that??? (Although Greenwalt doesn't address it in his commentary beyond calling the snake "phallic.")

And then, below in the Warren - misogynist? thread, the image of the orbs is discussed. Could anybody have missed that symbolism? To be fair, I know that it was serving as a set-up to a punch (or kick) line, but it's got me wondering, was the level of "hidden" symbols in Season 6 on a par with that of previous seasons? I'm a bit down on this past season, so I'm not sure that I can objectively decide.

What would you nominate as examples of "below the radar" images from Season 6?

[> Re: Covert to overt. -- Wisewoman, 09:47:31 06/18/02 Tue

I know most of the people here saw it immediately, but the image of Buffy with stone wings in the cemetary early in the season was missed by a few people I know.

Clueless. Couldn't have watched more than 3 episodes, obviously, if that.

[> [> I agree! 3 eps, tops! -- cjc36, 09:41:02 06/18/02 Tue

Fiction doesn't have to be either comedy or horror. The hybrid nature of BtVS may throw some viewers, and that's expected. I never liked the flashback tricks in Aly McBeal, but there seems to be a bit of meanness to the article, a talking down to us fans with the 'enjoyable doesn't mean it's actually good' argument.

Buffy fans are...fanatic. We are an organized force. If there is a poll or an interview or an article, the link ends up on every board. If there is a negative review the reviewer gets a flood of flames. Maybe most critics really do like Buffy. Or maybe some of them just don't want to be the target of Buffy fans and so keep their reviews positive. I think I remember Wanda and Noxon discussing how threatening some fans were in an interview that garnered even more flames, especially for Noxon. Maybe anyone who reviews BtVS has learned that it's no fun when tens of thousands or hundred of thousands of Buffy fans paint a bull's eye on your butt. Lots of us are articulate, motivated and connected. Too bad that doesn't translate into getting our favorite BtVS actor or episode nominated for an Emmy.

[> [> [> [> [> [> [> Re: Because they like it? Or are afraid of us? -- maddog, 14:59:26 06/18/02 Tue

And what's sad about the bad reviews is that they wouldn't deserve flames if they weren't completely devoid of fact or truth. It's not like we even have to try hard to disprove them.

Ran across this today:
As for "literature of expression" and "literature of escape" -- this is critics' jargon, a use of abstract words as if they had absolute meanings. Everything written with vitality expresses that vitality: there are no subjects, only dull minds. All men who read escape from something else into what lies behind the printed page; the quality of the dream may be argued, but its release has become a functional necessity. All men must escape at times from the deadly rhythm of their private thoughts. It is part of the process of life among thinking beings. It is one of the things that distinguish them from the three-toed sloth; he apparently -- one can never be quite sure -- is perfectly content hanging upside down on a branch, not even reading Walter Lippmann. I hold no particular brief for the detective story as the ideal escape. I merely say that all reading for pleasure is escape, whether it be Greek, mathematics, astronomy, Benedetto Croce, or The Diary of the Forgotten Man. To say otherwise is to be an intellectual snob, and a juvenile at the art of living.

Glamour UK goes behind the scenes of Angel -- Rufus, 14:28:13 06/18/02 Tue

Conversebuffyverse

http://www.slayage.com/news/020618-angel-onset.html

TV Heaven
GLAMOUR July 2002 (UK Edition)

Glamour goes behind the scenes at Angel, TV's most vampish show.
By Michael Hogan

There's an emergency on the Angel set. Star of the show David Boreanaz is not happy. His trailer, in a secluded corner of the Paramount Studio car park in LA, has what locals call a 'pop-out' - a foldaway canopy for David to sit under between scenes so the California sun doesn't spoil his vampire pallor with (heaven forbid)a tan. Problem is, it's rumoured the pop-out has collapsed, falling
right onto the roof of David's brand new Mercedes. The car's a wreck.

We're watching a scene that doesn't feature David, when his livid phone call comes. Everyone goes into panic mode. Producer Kelly Manners reluctantly takes the handset and tries to soothe the yelling actor.

Just a couple of big cheeses have plucked up the courage to cross the car park and face the demon's wrath, David Boreanaz himself emerges from the neighbouring building in a dark blue suit, looking around at the chaos he's caused. The he bends up double, laughing. The whole thing was a joke.

David likes a laugh. This is the guy who, in his days as Buffy the Vampire Slayer's screen lover, would eat raw tuna and onion rings before snogging (kissing) scenes to gross out Sarah Michelle Gellar.

Angel started life as Buffy spin-off and is now on of the biggest shows among hip young Americans, outshining all the competitors apart from Dawson's Creek. In Britain, over 2 million switch on. And because it's screened after the watershed, Angel is darker, sexier and inspires a cult following even more devoted than Buffy's.

Thirty-one-year-old David plays Angel, the vampire cursed with a soul, who's not only left his home town of Sunnydale, but also his passionate relationship with vampire slayer Buffy. He ends up in LA, fighting evil to redeem himself for past crimes.

Trouble is, the city's too big for one good guy to cope with - even one this skilled at kicking ass. So Angel sets up an unlikely but effective evil-fighting team comprising wannabe actress Cordelia Chase (fellow Buffy veteran, Charisma Carpenter), brainy Brit Wesley Wyndham-Price (Alexis Denisof) and streetfighter Charles Gunn (J August Richards). They're joined in this second series by
Winifred'Fred' Burkle, played by Amy Acker and baby-faced, first-time actor Andy 'The Host' Hallett.

Filmed partly at the Paramount studios, the rest of the scenes are shot on LA's streets, but shooting out and about has its drawbacks. Angel's nocturnal, so it's all late night or early mornings. Plus, the actual locations are hardly Beverly Hills. Taking a break from filming, female lead Charisma wrinkles her nose, slinging her hands
in her leather jacket: "It's uncomfortable, it's stinky. We shoot down alleyways with rats, as big as dogs running around. People dump pee on us out of their windows."

David is more philosophical adding: "Homeless people scream at me all the time. Others come up and tell me their life stories. I guess they all want to be saved."

But the main issue on set among the Angel crew is kicking butt: who gets to do it, who doesn't, who kicks whose. J's excited about it. "Man, I'm getting to do me-vs-three demons ass-kicking action now. I've got my own signature weapons in that cabinet over there. Signature weapons! It's like being a kid and playing at Star Wars."

David does kung-fu and two-thirds of his own stunts. Even trained ballerina Charisma acts tough. "For months I've been begging, 'When do I get to punch somebody? When do I get to stake a vampire?' And now I am and it's so much fun," she enthuses, running her hands through her newly blonde hair.

David reappears in full Angel garb, having been on the mobile to his pregnant wife, model-turned-actress Jaime Bergman. She's due any day now. "I'm excited about diapers and everything," he beams. "It's going to be a life-changing experience. It's scary too, but hey, if I
can give what my parents have given me, then I know I'm in a good boat."

He rolls up his shirt sleeves to show off his tattoos, one on each arm. "That means the soul and this one means fate. My wife has the same ones." Do they know if it's a boy or a girl? "No, it'll come out and go, 'Surprise!' Just let it be a kid, you know?"

Suddenly David and Charisma are called back to the set. The leading pair's will they/won't they relationship is hotting up this series and it's time for one of those scenes that crackle with sexual tension. ("I'm like, will she ever get laid?" laughs Charisma.)

As they're heading back to work in a flurry of black leather, there's one more thing we want to know. What does the fake blood taste like? "It's sweet, like sugar," says David, turning back, smacking his lips and giving me his best vampire stare. "The blood tastes goooood."

We make our excuses and leave. Fast.

[> David has tatoos on his arms? -- Masq, 15:23:01 06/18/02 Tue

I assume he got them after he started dating/being married to his wife. Will we get to see them on the show? How will they explain Angel getting more tatoos?

And will they ever, EVER, EVER explain the tatoo behind his right shoulder????

Personally, I'm betting it was Angelus who put it there, since Giles' watcher's diaries talk about the tatoo.

[> [> Re: David has tatoos on his arms? -- Deeva, 16:24:41 06/18/02 Tue

I know! I wish they would just do a little bit on some things that are just left hanging up in the air right in front of the viewers. I mean you could just hit your head on it, it's just hanging there. Why the tattoo? What's with the griffin? I think they (ME) do this to see exactly how hung up we are on stuff. They underestimate how fussy we all can be.

I don't think that we'll ever see those tattoos on DB. NB has a tattoo on his upper arm and we haven't seen Xander in a tee shirt in a while. SMG seems to have a couple of tattoos on her lower back. But you know CC has a rather large one on her lower back that I seem to recall seeing in Season 1, when Cordy wore some VERY low slung pants.

What's with all the demon-hybrid questions?

[> [> Re: Is there something you're not telling us Zander? -- zander, 20:53:06 06/18/02 Tue

I'm just curious ok because on both shows there haven't been alot of things on hybrids. I like the idea of hybrids on Buffy and Angel.

You just need the right type of spell to do it.

Sorry, wasn't being snarky, just silly!
Anyone, demon, human, or hybrid, can be resurrected as long as they died due to a mystical cause.

I suppose so, but we haven't really been shown them.....and also I'm going by what Osiris' minion said. Ordinarily I'd take his word for it, him being a lackey of a God and all, but since you have the inside scoop there I shall defer to your knowledge!

[> [> [> [> [> [> [> ME seems to be doing some research. -- VampRiley, 08:34:45 06/19/02 Wed

Witchcraft is a nature-based belief system or religion, but not all witches follow the same system. Some practice the old religion, which is rooted in pre-monotheistic, pagan folk ways and beliefs that usually follows the seasonal cycles. A particular tradition is often based upon that particular culture from where it came from. Many witches believe in a polytheistic deity structure, usually based upon the local gods and goddesses of the area of origin. But some just practice magick, as opposed to stage magic. There are witches that are solitary or group themselves together in covens. Family groups or traditions are known to exist that trace their practices and beliefs within the same close group through many generations.

This seems to be portrayed for the most part in the show. The problem is they haven't shown any kind of other school of magick, other than chaos magick. Demons and gods have been shown to use magick, but I don't think it has been said or implided just what kind of magick they have used. You can't just say demonic magick because that could involve more than one school. We've seen and heard about "dark magick", but dark doesn't necessarily evil. It seems more like dangerous to me, rather than evil. The danger is first to the humans that try to utilize it. Skip told Cordelia that humans were not as physically durable as demons. That's why Doyle could put up with the visions better than Cordelia. But that higher durability only goes so far. Lorne told Angel that he was trying to work with magick that takes hundreds of years to cultivate. He said it was dangerous and they are both demons.

[> [> [> [> [> [> [> Osiris and entreatism. -- VR, 08:54:12 06/19/02 Wed

Entreatism: Entreatist's power is in what he can gain from other dimensions. They spend a lot of time learning how to draw power from extraplanar entities. They have a vast knowledge of god lore; gods who are known to mankind and those that aren't. Some are good, evil or neutral. Some view entreatists as lazy or crazy since these kinds of spells are easiest and the most dangerous, respectively. But they do know a spell or two that doesn't use extraplanar entities. For the most part, they will know magickal lore that pertains to using potent magick artifacts, asking sentient planes of existence and numerous gods. Whether the plane is actually sentient depends on who you talk to. Entities will take notice of an entreatist after a while. When that happens, they may "ask" for something in return for providing the mage with power. If a witch constantly catches the attention of an entity, the sorcerer may be taken down a peg or two due to his continued dependence on them. The being entreated may make the mage a servent for a certain length of time. This is why an entreatist sorcerer won't become dependent on any particular entity. One's extraplanar contacts should be entreated an equal number of times to minimize contact while staying in their good graces. Complete dependence is bad, but completely ignoring them for a long time is just as bad.

Now, I remember the guy in Sense and Sensitivity who used entreatism. He was a polytheist. Willow's spell for resurrection was for Osiris specifically. I would imagine that minor gods have limitations on their powers, like Osiris could only resurrect someone who didn't die a natural death, like a gun shot. There have been numerous spells that call on the power of some entitiy in the past seasons of the shows. Some are gods, some might be powerful demons. But, it has never been stated if these spells are just part of an entreatist school or if they are an entreating spell developed from within a particular school for a specifc entity for a particular purpose.

[> [> [> [> [> [> [> [> Re: Osiris and entreatism. -- O'Cailleagh, 09:28:19 06/19/02 Wed

Mostly good points VR, but Osiris, as God of death, rebirth and resurrection, should not be considered a minor God. His power should be roughly equivalent to that of death/rebirth/resurrection Gods(or Goddesses) from other pantheons.

[> [> [> [> [> [> [> [> [> I just meant "minor" as in not "all powerful". -- VR, 09:47:54 06/19/02 Wed

Amongst "not all-powerful gods", there should be lesser and greater ones. Osiris would definitely be one of the greater ones. When you have power involving life and death, you have to be powerful.

[> [> [> [> [> [> [> [> [> [> [> Now that I think about it, there have been other "schools" of magick presented. -- VR, 11:19:12 06/19/02 Wed

Warning: My use of words, like witch, sorceror, mage, wizard, etc. are being used interchangably to mean someone who participates in magick, not stage magic. I got sick of writing the same word over and over again. It was annoying.

Voodoo Magick: From the spirit-gods of voodoo, the Loa, this faith originated and was practiced in Haiti. It has since spread throughout the Caribbean region and to other parts of the world. The witch is most likely a houngan or voodoo priest. Voodoo magick is particularly effective in locations of the dead (a cemetary or a burial tomb) or in its homeland. While it can be perverted into a chaotic magick, it is considered a "white" magick and has no special vulnerabilities. Voodoo is in a state of constant change, incorporating different aspects of many religions into itself. Fifty years into the future, today's Voodoo will most likely be different. This school is rather versatile since it uses several aspects of the other schools of magick.

Voodoo was mentioned by Giles in Some Assembly Required. He talked about zombies, but there are hints of necromancy.

Necromancy: This powerful school involves spells dealing with death and the dead. These spells drain vitality from living creatures and restore life functions to unliving creatures. Bones, blood, spirits and apparitions are all associated with the magickal energies shaped and controlled by the specialists of this school. Only the most enlightened, strong-willed and intuitive wizards can become specialists of this school. Those of this school have a practically obsessive pull towards life and death. But necromancers can range from withdrawn, humorless brooders to the lively exuberant and everywhere in between.

There were missing bodies.

Scientific Magick: There is no specific ethical or philosophy background for this school. Scientific magick is seen as just a tool -- a means to an end. There is nothing that would let one use it as a way of life. Unless you have a crazy notion that all life should be a blend of both organic and inorganic and you want to force others to live like that. But that is not the basis of this school. Those of this school's bent are seldom spell-casters. They combine magick with highly advanced or obscure forms of science to create effects that seem similar to a technomage. The invisibility gun used by the Troika is scientific magick. But a technomage utilizes more magick. Either science or magick can be used to produce the same effect. The line between magick and quantum-mechanical science is blurred. Alchemy is one such semi-magickal science that could be considered as a scientific magick. The scientific mage doesn't have as many restrictions as the others do. He can have more spells of the artificial variety than a normal mage. But a scientific wizard is more vulnerable than a non-scientific one, particularly certain weaknesses that only the scientific wizard can have. His magick can be stolen from him or destroyed quite easily. He can also run out of items, whereas spells don't have this drawback. The non-scientific mage has to worry about depleting all of his magick and having to wait to "recharge". He is limited by time. Certain scientific spells require time to gather the materials needed (the availability) and time to create new items (tablets, potions, powders, etc.), how strong they are and the effects.

A scientific magick wielder begins his career with access to his master's laboratory, which has its own equipment. Though the student may wish to set up his own lab, he can use the one belonging to his master as long as the master agrees. A scientific magick wielder learns one scientific talent of his choice (engineering, biology, genetics, physics, etc.) depending what he wants to do, in addition to any other talents he may normally receive. The talent received by alchemists is pharmacy (the mixture and preparation of medicines). Scientific magick is a "neutral" school and no other special bonuses or vulnerabilities apply to it.

Alchemy: In other words, alchemy is the magick of material things. An alchemist produces magickal effects by making otherwise ordinary magickal materials and then mixing said materials together in new and exciting ways. Typically, this will involve the brewing of magickal potions, oils, pills or even dusts, though the magick can come in any expendable form the alchemist can think of. In order to ‘cast' his magick, then, an alchemist will spread powder, drink a potion, etc. Though he is limited by the amount of alchemical mixtures that he can carry with him. An alchemist can "give" his powers to another very easily, but it is very easy for someone to steal it as well. The creation of physical substances that have mystical properties takes a very long time.

Techno-Magick: The mage has the unique ability to combine science and magic. This is a Science. This is similar to scientific magick, except with techno-magick, there is more magick involved. The trio's cerebral dampener is techno-magick, as is the wrist cuffs that held the demon prisoners in "The Ring" are an example of a complex form of techno-magick. All schools of magick follow one or two generally "scientific" principles. There is a basic methodology, which lets a mage collect and shape the forces of probability. But a technomage takes this one step further. Using today's, or possibly tomorrow's science, these sorcerers work to enhance their arts above and beyond those of their brethren. The simplest form of technomancy involves commonplace devices that are used to focus spells through. This will cause the item to work better than it otherwise would. Like a bolt of mystical energy focused through the barrel of a gun or a flight spell shunted into a kite.

Any other spells will work just the same when focused. But it's limited to having to be focused through the correct type of device, if not a specific object, in order to
function properly. How potent the spell effect can be is determined by the degree of limitation. An ordinary object will make the effect intensity one rank higher. But with an object the mage had to build himself could cause the intensity to be two or three ranks higher. Symbolic spells can come in handy and can be very, very potent. But it should be noted that the true ideal of techno-magick is a combination of technology and magick. This is meant to accomplish things that neither can do by themselves. A technomage may enchant items, like alchemists, granting it a magickal power or two, but it's not the same. A technomage creates both the magickal and technological parts at the same time, creating something greater than the sum of its parts. It will have aspects based upon the nature of the components and can have unexpected traits as well.

The only real limits are the sorcerer's imagination and the nature of the world he lives in. Whatever workable things he makes equals one spell for calculating mystic mastery. It can cost a bit more to make a new item with an effect intensity that's higher than the standard intensity rank of the completely magickal version of the spell.

Chaos Magick: This magickal school promotes chaos, which can lead to unpredictability. This type of magick is much more powerful in certain settings (such as ancient temples to certain gods whose bent is towards chaos) and with the use of "chaotic" magick artifacts. But, chaos magick isn't necessarily evil, just like chaos itself isn't necessarily evil. The term "evil" can only be applied to the intentions of the magick wielder himself. There are times when chaos is good. Chaos is the creative force behind all magick. A chaotic magickian is able to "see" beyond the schools' authoritative tenets to use whatever methods that will lead to whatever could be considered as chaos. While there are certain spells that will help spread chaos, chaotic wizards can use many of the spells and rituals of other schools.
Often, those who have partaken in chaos magick spells and rituals will experience a 'high' afterwards.

Chaos magick is eclectic magick, but eclectic magick is not chaos magick. There is only one belief with chaos magick -- nothing is absolutely true -- except this tenet, of course. You're free to take anything you like and use it as if it were true. If the witch of this school subscribes to any one belief system, copied, put together, etc., it is no longer chaos magick. Those of this school are agnostic magickal wielders. To be able to use chaos magick, one's mystical philosophy can't be anything, but agnosticism and the spread of chaos.

Eclecticism: This school doesn't follow one school of philosophy. It comes from a little bit here and there that is acquired by the witch. It's thought to be a "neutral" magick. "Dabblers" in magick tend to be in this group. With this school, there isn't much to hold them back (enemies, rituals, obligations, etc.). But there is no one that is taught completely or comprehensively. Advancement in this school is on the slow side. Eclectics often have weird mixtures of knowledge, spells and powers, many of which won't compliment the others. The eclectic will have the exact abilities he wants, though, without having to go through the training to learn others that he isn't interested in.

It is harder to learn if one goes the eclectic route without the proper training that a structured school provides. And while this may be true, the new spells that are learned will be almost as powerful the ones possessed by the one who taught him. So, this makes up for the penalties of eclecticism in the long run. The eclectic
mage can learn spells from various different schools without having to learn most of them to go on to another one. But they don't have anyone in particular to learn from. So, they have to go in search of someone over and over again to teach them. And they may not be able to find someone for a long time. It is not likely that an eclectic mage will want to be another eclectic mage's teacher, since this is a very tough school to learn. At least not cheaply. He may want to hold onto his knowledge and keep it a secret if he has worked very hard to get where he is.

Jonathan would fall into this category. He's a "dabbler".

Andrew has trained flying demon monkeys and is able to at least summon one kind of creature. We didn't really get to find out what else he could do.

The entreatist in "Sense and Sensitivity" may have also know or may have been a part of the special realm or pantheon school.

Special Realm or Pantheon: The history of a special realm or pantheon provides the magick and teachings of this school. Bonuses would be with using spells or items that have been developed by this pantheon or realm and when at certain locations (Greece for the Olympian pantheon, etc.). Locations or items that exist to destroy the specific realm or pantheon are the penalties.

As for R vs J? I've been writing them in either two or three sectioned parts. I got the first one done, but haven't had the time to write the others. Hopefully, I will get them done within the week.

I'm presuming Ethan Rayne would be classified as a Chaos Magician, and Moloch's recreation as a robot was a form of scientific magic?

[> [> [> [> [> [> [> [> [> [> [> [> [> Yes. -- VampRiley, 13:31:38 06/19/02 Wed

Yes, Ethane would definitely be the only magickian we have known that we could positively identify as a chaos sorceror, though, Giles in his early days may have been on his way to being what Ethane is if it wasn't for the death of Randall.

I completely forgot about Moloch. And yes. To reach his final form, the process would be considered to be scientific magick. He was put into the book by magick. His new body was created with quantum-mechanical science. Being digitized, he could move about anything connected to the school's computer with a modem. And magick again was used to confine him to the RoboBody. Then he die. Poor Moloch.

Thanks for reminding me!!!!

Anyone else remember anything else?

Techno-magick involves equal parts quantum-mechanical science and magick. With Moloch, you have two with magick and the RoboBody. The construction of the body wouldn't be one, but would indicate much more than two for the number of parts. Getting to that level of sophistication, it would have to be scientific magick.

Last time on Robert vs Joey...

Surprised, Robert steadied himself. NinjaMan came at Robert high and from the left, then right, then left. He spun around, but Robert block his swing. NinjaMan spun the other way and Robert caught him. NinjaMan kicked him just below his left knee and spun. Robert bent forward and rolled. He rolled to his feet as NinjaMan attacked him again. Without turning around, Robert position his blade with both hands behind his left shoulder, then the right as NinjaMan came at him at high on that side as well. NinjaMan spun to his left and came around with a horizontal slash of his weapon, but Robert bent forward. As NinjaMan continued with his movement, Robert dropped his blade on the ground. He jumped forward slightly, ending with his palms on the ground and kicking backward with both feet. NinjaMan staggered backward as Robert flipped forward while picking up his sword. He turned around. He held his sword's handle upside down, but with the blade still pointing to the sky. NinjaMan leapt at him again, his blade poised above his head. Robert jumped as well and spun, bringing his blade diagonally through NinjaMan's torso from the lower, right side, all the way through to the upper left portion. He landed facing the same direction he was before he leapt. NinjaMan's body fell to the ground in front of him. He looked at it for a couple seconds. Then, he slowly looked up at the top floor of the building in front of him with yellow colored eyes.

In a world, entirely within my own fragmented psyche...

Inside the office, Joey was flipping through the channels on the cable box he found with the remote. There was a juice box in his hand. It was yellow with a cartoon dog on the side facing away from him. He heard moaning and stopped. The screen grabbed his attention as he saw a naked woman on her hands and knees bent over in front of another woman with something strapped onto her hips that she was pushing into the other woman. They were moving together rhythmically on the bed, it's springs squeaking loudly. Their pace was fast. The woman in the back had long red hair while the other one had short brunette hair that was bleached, but her dark roots were starting to show. Joey dropped the remote. He didn't blink. He unhooked his feet, took them off the table and moved forward in the chair.

Robert entered the elevator and hit a button. The doors closed. Joey continued to watch. He took a long sip from his juice box. The two women had changed positions. The strapped on item laid on the right side of the blonde. She had her legs over the right side of the bed. The red head was on her knees in front of the blonde, her head was between her legs moving up and down and around, but not moving more than a couple inches in any direction. The blonde laid on her back, her back arched upward. It straightened out and she grabbed the red head's hair and held her closer to her. Her moaning got louder and louder as time went on.

BANG!!!!!!!!

Joey had to look away from the explosion. He turned and knelt down, covering his face. The smoke started to fill the room. As it cleared, Joey looked back at the TV. There was this giant whole through it. Sparks appeared inside. He heard a whistle. He looked at the door and saw Robert there. He had his katana in his left hand hanging at his side loosely with his Glock pointed up in his right, his elbow bent. The smoke cleared some more and Robert smiled a huge grin from ear to ear. Joey looked at the TV and then back at Robert whose smile got larger. Joey vamped out and jumped on the desk. He launched himself at the older looking man and tackled him to the ground. Growling, he grabbed the front of his shirt and repeatedly head butt him. Robert raised his Glock and pointed it at Joey's left temple. Joey stopped. Robert looked tired, but he smiled. Joey felt only a little pain as the bullet entered his skull. Blood splattered on the desk nearby and Joey fell to his right. He let go of Robert and Robert hit the back of his head on the floor. With his eyes closed, he squinted in pain. He groaned and let his grip loosen on his gun as it sat at his side with his palm facing up.

As the hole in Joey's skull healed, the bullet was moved out. When it finished healing, the small piece of metal just sat on his head. His eyebrows moved painfully. He groaned as he sat up. He heard a click and stopped. He turned and saw Robert standing in front of him with his gun pointed at him in human face. The right side of his mouth slightly turned up. He had a look that said "Did you think it would end any differently?" Joey had a look of hatred on his face. He rose from the floor into the air and was slammed against the wall to Robert's right. Four separate spots on the wall had chains emerged from it and attached themselves to his wrists and ankles. They pulled back and stretched out his limbs so they were diagonal from his body. Robert lifted the back of his shirt and put his gun inside the holster on the back of his pants with his right hand and sat at the desk with the splattered blood on it. He pulled out the tray under the top. Inside it was something rolled up. He placed it on the right edge of the desktop and undid the velcro at the top and the velcro on the bottom, pulling them to his right. With his left, he rolled it out on the desk. It stopped at the left edge. It was one of those things that held surgical instruments. The outside was genuine leather with the inside was velvet. The end of each piece was shaped differently.

Joey struggled against the chains. He growled and Robert looked at him with a smile of evil and fun. He turned back and started examining a scalpel. Joey pulled at at his chains. The edges were cutting into the skin around his wrists. The ones around his ankles were straining against him, too. Robert checked the sharpness of the scalpel. He heard a crash as Joey pulled the chains from the wall taking parts of the wall with him. He leapt and growled at Robert. He caught the smaller man, but Joey was able to get his mouth to Robert's neck. He ripped out his adam's apple. Robert's upper body moved back a bit. He chompped down on the adult's left side of his neck. Robert staggered backward as he clenched his throat. Joey dropped to the ground and went over to the shiney metal incased in the velvet. Looking through it, he found a very thin piece that was small in width. He put in the lock, moving it around. Robert fell to his knees as blood continued to pour onto
the light grey carpeting.

Joey undid the last one and ran back into the office he was in. He came running back out with his baseball bat raised above his head. Robert's neck had yet to heal as Joey came up to him. Robert threw his right up into Joey bottom jaw with a loud crack. On his knees, he came down on the right side of Joey's face leaving deep scars. He dropped his bat. Then, he straightened his arm right into Joey, the bottom of his palm hitting the center of his chest. Joey flew back. He landed just in front of Robert's katana. The fingers on his left hand had no fingernail and the tips of his fingers were an inch longer and as sharp as claws. They morphed back to a human looking hand. His throat was starting to heal. He slowly stood up and walked over to his blade. The cuts on Joey's face almost finished healing as he tried to get to his hands and knees. He saw the blade in front of him move. He followed it up with his eyes and met Robert's stone cold gaze. Joey jumped to his feet and ran for the elevator. Robert chased after him.

When Joey got there, he saw the controls were disabled. The control panel was hanging by a few wires and a couple sparks flew. Robert slashed the air with his sword trying to get the little man. His blade made smooth, clean cuts through the desks, chairs...anything that got in it's way. It was like a hot knife through butter. Joey grabbed a sharpened pencil off one of the desks and threw it behind him by swinging his right arm to his side. Robert saw Joey's upper body turn slightly, but the pencil lodged itself into his right eye. The plastic lens in front of his eye shattered. He stopped and dropped his sword from his left hand. He pulled the offending wood and metal from his socket.

Joey went over to a part on the side of the room the office was on. He had his bat in hand as he looked at the area. It was at the opposite side of the room Robert was, who was groaning in pain. There was some construction going on (plastic hanging, a ladder, etc.) and he saw a nail gun. He turned and fired it at Robert. The adult ducked behind the desk in front of him and to his right. As the nails were stopped by the wall in front of him, he leaned with his back against the desk. He leaned over to his right and pulled his weapon to him. Joey held the trigger down. He heard a click. Joey looked at it. He aimed and fired again, but he heard more clicks. Robert heard them, too. His brow furrowed in curiosity, he slowly looked over the edge of the desk. He saw Joey having trouble. As his eye finished healing, his vision was blurry. It shifted to clear as he focused on his target. He got up and charged after the kid. Joey saw him and dropped the tool. He grabbed his bat and charged Robert. Robert swung down from up and to the left to down and to the right. Joey ducked. With the handle in his right and his left near the top, he rammed his bat into Robert's stomach. He swung the bottom of the handle up and to the left, hitting him right in his face. As Robert went to his right, Joey kicked down onto the adult's outer left knee. As he went down, Joey swung to his right, but Robert ducked. He jabbed his right elbow into Joey's stomach.

The grip of Joey's left hand loosened on his bat, but he still held it. Robert stood up and grabbed Joey by the back of his hair. He raised his left knee and smashed Joey's face into it. His nose broken, Joey extended the claws of his right hand and slashed deeply into Robert's stomach. He grabbed his bat with both hands and shoved Robert backward. The bat was pressing into where Joey slashed him. He tried to push back, but it was too painful. They crashed through the window. They fell through the air. Robert looked at him and saw a smile. Robert turned them over and the smile left Joey and appeared on Robert. They landed on the road with a loud crack. Robert looked at Joey and saw he was passed out. Robert smiled, but he got very tired. He rolled off of Joey to his left and passed out.

Subject: But I've run into a problem with my thinking.
In reply to: Brian 's message, "Re: But who says you can't be 29." on 13:46:16 06/11/02 Tue

I'm almost 23, but I'm also an old soul. So, this is what it's like inside me.

On the left, there's a ten year old kid. He's dressed like a ten year old boxer, with the red boxer shorts, white sox, converse sneakers, a white A-shirt and a small
pair of wire-frame glasses. I'll call him Joey.

On the right, there's a man in a three piece, dark blue business suit with a briefcase. He has a white shirt with a red tie and black shoes. He has a gold rolex, a silver
woven ring on the center finger of his left hand and a regular sized wire-frame glasses. I'll call him Robert.

They're both standing in a completely white room the seemed to go on forever.

The kid has small boxing gloves on, suitable for a ten year old. He runs up to the man in a business suit and punches him in the groin and laughs. The adult falls to the
floor, clutching himself in pain. Angry, the adult stood up and picked to kid up by the back of his shirt. Joey was swinging his arms and legs trying to hit him. In a
flash, a stool appeared behind the adult. He sat down and put the kid over his knee. As he's spanking Joey, the ten year old bit the adult on his left thigh just above
his knee. He screamed and let go of the kid. The kid fell to the floor. He got up and took off laughing.

Robert caught up to him. He held Joey's back to his chest and walked back over to the stool. The stool morphed into a small chair and he placed the kid in the chair.
The floor in front of the kid rose up and morphed into a corner of a room. It stopped at about three feet high. Robert pulled one of those large, pointed dunce caps
out from behind his back and put it on Joey's head. Robert walked away from the scrunched up face of the kid.

Robert walked over to the briefcase he left when he first fell. He opened it up and started looking through it. Joey smiled as he took off his cap and ran up to the
adult. As Robert was looking at something inside, his eyes went wide as he screamed in pain. Joey laughed and ran away again. Robert reached behind him and
pulled out the dunce cap out of his right ass cheek with a grunt.

Feeling good, Joey kept on running. He looked behind him and saw Robert was gone. Before he turned back, he ran into something. He bounced back and landed
on his ass. He looked up and saw the face of Robert looking down at the kid with his eye glowing a dark red. Energy flowed from his eyes. As it flowed into the
surrounding environment, it acted like cigarette smoke. It was thick and not transparent and then faded into nothing the longer it was away from Robert. To say
Robert wasn't happy would be an understatement.

With a look of determination, Joey got up and walked right up to Robert with his gloved fist on his hips. He had to look straight up to look into Robert's eyes. He
looked down and stomped on Robert's left foot. Robert raised his foot in pain and grabbed it. Joey kicked the inside of Robert's right knee. He went down on his
left side grunting. Joey walked over to his face and started working on it. A minute later, Robert punched Joey in his mid-section with his right and Joey flew back.
Slowly, Robert got back to his feet. There was blood coming down from his nose. His lower lip was split. He felt his jaw with his right hand and spit out some blood.

Winded, Joey slowly tried to get to his feet. It was a bit hard with his gloves on. He got to his knees and undid the velcro strap on the top of his left wrist with his
teeth. He put his hand under his right arm and tried to pull his hand out. He did the same for his right hand and look up to his left.

Robert walked up to him and kneeled down. He proceeded to pound on the ten year old just as Joey had done to him. Joey ducked to his left and Robert threw his
fist into the floor. While he screamed in agony, Joey ran up to him and tried to claw his eyes out. He missed, but left a big gash on Robert's left cheek. Robert
pushed Joey backwards and he slid across the floor. As he slid, he ended up leaning on his right side and stopped. Robert stood up and reached inside of his suit
jacket with his right hand and pulled out a Sig-Sauer SP2340 Pro. He slid the top back, loading a round into the chamber.

Joey looked up at Robert and saw the gun. Robert pointed it at the child's face. Watching Robert's trigger finger, Joey ran out of the way as he squeezed of a shot.
Joey ran straight at Robert. The adult took aim and fired again, but missed. Joey ran around the outerside of Robert's right leg and then between his legs. Robert
turned to follow the child, but lost his balance. He was trying to balance on his left foot. Joey ran to Robert's right leg. He grabbed it and pushed. Robert fell, landing
on his left side. Joey took off his a-shirt. Robert tried to get up. He crawled up to his hands and knees. He looked up, but saw no one. He let put an "oomph" as
something landed on his back. Joey had jumped on his back and wrapped his a-shirt around Robert's neck. He crossed the two ends over each other and pulled
back. Robert tried to fight back, but he hadn't taken a breath and was quickly running out of air. He felt his head get really warm as the blood stayed in his head with
nowhere to leave. Soon, he fell forward unconscious.

*****************************************************

When Robert regained consciousness, his head and right fist hurt. He groaned and tried to move, but couldn't. When he opened his eyes, he noticed he was looking
up. He tried to look around him and found he was tied down with rope and in front of him was one of those large buzzsaws used to cut trees in half the long ways.
He heard laughing and looked to his left. He saw Joey on some scaffolding. He was in front of a panel. As he continued his insane laughter, he hit a few of the
controls and the buzzsaw started spinning. Robert looked at the saw and then glared at Joey. He returned Robert's look, but couldn't resist laughing.

The panel Robert was on started moving towards the giant silver-colored saw. He tried rocking side-to-side, but he couldn't get out. There was a guard rail on each
of his sides. Joey continued his laughter. He started jumping up and down while clapping as the adult moved close to his doom. Robert tried to reach into his right
pants pocket. He pulled out a switchblade and cut the ropes. Disgruntled, Joey climbed down the scaffolding and ran outside. Robert finally cut the last rope that
was holding him down just before his groin got to the blade. He rolled backwards and stood up. He turned to his left and jumped to the floor.

As he ran to the only door, he heard a motor starting. When he got outside, he saw a WWII fighter plane taking off. It's really weird a logging plant would be in an
airport hangar. Joey was in the pilot seat. He had the hat and goggles on. Joey soared up and to the right. Then he turned left and headed back to Robert. From the
ground, Robert saw the machine gun in the front. Joey grabbed the trigger and he picked up speed. Robert turned and ran, trying to find cover. Seeing this, Joey,
fired. The first bullets were far from Robert, but they got closer. Robert jumped behind a jeep. Joey shot at it's engine as he passed over head.

Sitting on the ground, his back against the jeep, he looked to his left and saw a red flag on the jeep on the left side of the front of the jeep. He got a closer look and
saw it was the flag of a general. He looked at the hood and saw a star. He looked inside and found a rocket launcher in the back. Joey turned right as he passed
over head. He flew back for a second swoop to where he first turned after he got off the ground. Robert extended the launcher and looked through the scope. Joey
was picking up speed again, his hand on the trigger. Looking at the plane, Robert pressed the button. Joey saw the rocket coming his way. He undid his belt and
jumped out of the plane. The rocket hit the engine and the plane exploded. The pieces fell to the ground. Joey pulled on the cord on his chute and his parachute
deployed. He guided himself to an empty field on Robert's right.

Robert threw the rocket launcher into the back and jumped into the driver seat. He turned the engine over and took off after the falling child. As he landed, Joey
quickly disconnected from the chute. He heard an engine behind him and turned. Robert was gunning for the little boy. He flew off the concrete and landed into the
soft grass. He pressed the gas pedal harder. Joey turned and ran in the other direction. Robert was gaining on the slow child.

To be continued...

Now, I dare you to read this and tell me I'm not crazy with a straight face or not to write anymore about this.

Subject: Robert vs. Joey, pt. 2 and a question to the board that I would like responses to.

Last night, I went to the chat room. After months and months, I finally get time to go. A lot of people were there -- me, dedalus, d'Herblay, juliaabra, ruf, mal,
Humanitas, anom and others. d'H asked when when I first became a god. I asked why and was told it was because of curious. d'H has enjoyed my trip down to
insanity. And that got me thinking: Does anyone else agree? Does anyone else think I'm going nuts, 'cause I'm not entirely sure anymore if I keep losing marbles or
not. It's pretty much impossible for me to tell these days. I can say I'm not, but that could just be me being delusional, though I do think I may have lost a few
recently. And if you do, could to say when you began to think it and what it was about, if you can remember? Thanks.

Oh, by the way, for those who were in the chat when this other topic came up, a god would disguise himself as someone named VampRiley so that he could walk
amongst others and be treated like everyone else. Gods are people, too. I mean, look who Glory's minions acted around her. She may have tolerated it, but I
wouldn't be able to stand it. Yes men are so annoying. It's impossible completely trust them. It took them forever to say anything around her. Always kissing ass. It's
disgusting.

Also, I know you were just curious. It really didn't bother me being asked.

If you wan to read part 1, look in achive #2, at the thread caled Buffy DVD Season Two. It's near the bottom of the thread. That where the thread is when I'm
typing this up. Now, as for Robert and Joey, lets take a look at where they are now.

When we last left our dueling conceptual forces, Robert had just blown up Joey's WWII fighter. He landed safely to the ground, but Robert was gunning for him with
a general's jeep in the soft grass on the right side of a runway. Joey didn't want to become fertilizer. Who would? He desperately searched for a means of support.
Robert continued to gain ground on the cherub. He was almost directly on top of him when Joey turned left back to the runway. Robert was surprised as he
continued on straight. He turned the wheel to the left and skidded across the grass and came to a dead stop. He glared at the back of the youngin' running away. He
floored the pedal and dirt flew up from behind the wheels and he was off.

Joey had reached the pavement. His running made soft sounds as his sneakers propelled him forward. Robert was almost to the edge of the grass when a giant tree
shot up out of the ground. He crashed head first into it. Joey went around the corner of one of the hangars and stopped. He leaned against the wall as he tried to
catch his breathe, his hands just above his knees. His upper body was moving back and forth. He looked like he was gonna faint from exhaustion. But he let a small
smile cross his lips. At the tree, Robert slowly regained consciousness. He groaned in pain as he slowly moved. He coughed painfully and spit up some blood. As he
slowly moved out of the jeep, he fell face down into the grass. As he got up, he tried to breathe, but his chest hurt when he did. He got to his feet and staggered after
the kid.

Joey had caught most of his breathe. He frantically looked around him and saw a bunch of vehicles at what looked like a car rental area. There were cars, buses and
other vehicles of various sizes and shapes. He ran up to one of the buses. It was one of those little, yellow school buses that retarded kids ride. Its front door was
open. He ran up the stairs and lifts, like those found on shoes you see advertised on one of those Acme catalogs in the cartoons, appeared on top of the break and
gas pedals. Joey climbed up into the chair. But the steering wheel was too far away. Robert came around the corner and saw Joey get in the bus. The area for the
driver of the bus shifted to accommodate Joey's smaller size. He turned the keys and the engine roared.

He looked to his right and saw Robert starting to get a foot on the bottom step. He reached for that door handle thing that closes the doors and Robert got his foot
caught in it. Joey pressed the gas and he started moving. Robert was hopping on his foot and banged on the door. Joey stuck his tongue out. Robert reached to the
back of his waist band and pulled out a Glock 9 millimeter and shot at the top glass on the left door, aiming for Joey. He missed and hit the back of the seat. Joey
grabbed the door handle again and opened it. Robert fell out and rolled several times.

Joey hit the brakes and turned right. Robert got up and looked at Joey just sitting there. He was revving the engine. Robert looked around him and saw the building
for the car rental behind him. Then he looked back at Joey. From inside, he smiled and continued to rev the engine. Robert turn and tried to run as fast as he could.
Joey sat there for a couple of seconds, reveling in what he thought was going to happen. Then he took off. Joey was nearing Robert, but he jumped left and Joey
swerved right and ran into the back, left side of a buick, smashing up the front, left side of the bus. The crash only slowed him down. He kept on driving, swerved
right some more and stopped completely. Inside, Joey looked shocked as he took in everything that just happened. Robert got off the ground and ran inside. He put
his gun on the table. Panting, he took off his ripped jacket and pulled his tie off. He sat down on a chair behind the counter and put his left arm on the counter. He
laid his head on his arm exhausted.

Joey looked through the shattered glass of the door and saw Robert through the glass of the building and glared at him. Robert looked up and saw a set of keys lying
on the counter off to his right. He had a look of knowing what the keys were for as he picked them up. This was right before he heard a sound getting louder. He
looked to his left and saw the small bus barreling straight for him. It crashed through the doors. Robert got up and moved backwards, ending up on the back counter
as the bus smashed through the counter he just had his head on. The bus continued through the other side, smashing those doors as well. When he came out the
other side, Joey turned the wheel hard to the left and stopped. Robert ran through the other side and jumped onto a yellow, black and grey 1999 Ducati 900 SS
motorcycle. He put his gun back into the back of his waist band. He put the keys in the ignition and started the engine. As he drove away, Joey chased after him.

***********************************************************************

They made it into the city. The streets were deserted. Joey was tailing Robert. Robert turned left. When Joey turned left, his bus did one of those things where the
back keeps turning when you try to take a turn at high speeds. Robert reached behind and pulled his gun back out. He turn behind him and shot at the right front tire
of the bus with a bullet. Inside the bus, Joey noticed the tired was gone and took his right hand off the steering wheel. He held it palm side up and his palm glowed
white. He held his hand straight out in front of him and aimed at Robert. A lime green-colored energy shot from his hand and shattered the glass in front of him.
Robert looked behind him and fired at the engine. As he did, Joey fired again through the broken windshield and the energy hit Robert's rear tire. A dark red energy
now flew from the nozzle instead of a bullet and the engine exploded. The bus slowed, but the ducanti flew off the ground and did several flips forward before it
landed on the ground. As it spun, Robert let go and he landed on his back on the street. He bounced a couple times and stopped.

********************************************************************

It had finally turn night time.

Inside the bus, Joey awoke and coughed three times. He looked up into the rearview mirror and saw several glass and metal fragments lodged inside his face. He
reached up to his face with his small hands and started pulling them out. On the street, Robert laid there. He cough up some blood and groaned. He painfully turned
over and got up. In the bus, Joey pulled the last of he foreign objects from him and looked in the mirror. He watched as the injuries he got close up within a few
seconds. He undid his seat belt and climbed out of the chair. Robert staggered to his feet as the large hole that used to be the back of his brain and skull quickly
closed.

He saw Joey emerge from the wreckage. He straightened up. Joey threw a green energy ball at the adult. Robert dropped to the ground, letting it fly over him and
pointed his gun at Joey with both hands. It continued until it hit a parked car down the street and it blew up. Robert fired and Joey ran to his right. The red energy hit
what was left of the bus, which also blew up. Joey and Robert continued exchanging fire as Joey chased after Robert.

He ran into an empty construction area, which was on a steep hill, and disappeared. The building wasn't finished. It just had most of it's structural framework done.
Just outside, Joey stopped and slowly made his way in. He crept into an open area and heard a noise. He looked up and saw a half a dozen beams fall on him. Off
to the side, Robert sat at the controls of one of the machines with a smile on his face. The metal beams started to move as Joey got up. He steadied himself as he
glared at Robert. Robert kept smiling. Joey shot another green energy blast way above Robert. He heard a snap and jumped out of the machine just as a wrecking
ball crashed down on where he was. It rolled off and headed for Robert. Joey smiled. Robert got up and ran to the right, letting it roll right towards Joey. Joey's
smile left and he stumbled as he tried to get free from the beams. The wrecking ball was picking up speed. It would surely bounce over the edge and smash the child.
And it did jump the edge. He finally got himself free as the ball came down to where he was and kept on rolling. It smashed through the wooden wall and the wire
fence set up around the construction area and continued across the slopped street and smashed into a building.

Joey ran to the lift and Robert ran after him. Joey hit a button and it lifted him up. Robert tried to jump and he caught the edge with his hands. When he pulled
himself
up, he saw Joey stomp on his right hand. He let go of the edge and swung slightly. Then, Joey stomped on the other hand and Robert fell twenty feet to the ground.
He landed on the dirt with a thud. Joey sat down on the edge as he continued his journey up. Robert got up and headed for the stairs. Joey saw him and got up. He
hit another button and the lift stopped. He stepped onto one of the beams and looked below him. He saw no one. He turned around and saw Robert standing with
one of those things that drives those rivet things into the beams. He pointed it at Joey and he ran between the older looking man's legs. Robert got a shot off, but
missed. When Joey went between his legs, that put him off balance. He let go of the machine. The cord ran over top of the beam he was on and stopped. The device
swayed slightly back and forth under the beam. He fell over the edge held onto the edge of the beam he was standing on. Joey ran off onto other beams.

Robert pulled himself up and stayed on his hands and knees as he looked for the device he had. He saw it swinging and grabbed the cord. Joey continued running to
other beams, but he kept going higher. Robert pulled the device back up and looked at where he had last seen the kid. Joey kept getting higher and then stopped.
He was breathing heavily and he heard a noise and looked behind him. Robert had gotten onto the lift and was riding it up. When he had a clear shot, he fired. Joey
tried to duck, but his right hand got one of the rivets in it. The others landed into the beam behind him or flew behind the beams. Joey ran off getting higher. Robert
had stopped the lift, but hit a button and it continued on its way up. Joey stopped and pulled the rivet out of his hand, the hole closing up fast. He heard the motor of
the lift and took off. Robert stood there calmly as he was brought closer to the heavens. The device was casually sitting on his right shoulder. A relaxed expression
was on his face. Joey made it to the top of the partly constructed building and looked over the top of the city. It was a wonderful sight. The buildings were empty,
but many of the lights were on. He stood there for several seconds feeling the wind push his hair around. A tiny smile crossed his lips as he stretched his arms out to
his side, like Jesus did on the cross, only Joey was standing. He heard a whistle and turned, letting his arms fall to his sides. Robert was standing there with his left
side closer to Joey. His right hand was on the trigger while his left hand was aiming the device at the kid. Joey's eyes grew in shock. Robert smiled and pulled the
trigger.

Subject: For those who want it -- Robert vs Joey, pt 3

Previously on Robert vs Joey...

The two combatants were standing on top of a partially constructed frame of a building. Robert was standing there with his left side closer to Joey. His right hand
was on the trigger while his left hand was aiming the device at the kid. Joey's eyes grew in shock. Robert smiled and pulled the trigger.

Now, on R vs J...

The metallic rivets came flying towards the child. He ran to his left, catching two in his right calf. He stumbled as he moved. As he put his left foot down, it was too
close to the edge of the beam and it slipped off. As he fell, he grabbed onto the edge with both hands. He quickly lost his grip and fell to the beam beneath him.
When he landed, he wobbled between falling off and not falling. He saw the ground way down and steadied himself. Robert watched as Joey fell. After Joey started
getting up on the beam below, Robert aimed again. Joey quickly got up and started running. He saw a pair of construction gloves sitting on one of the beams near
by. Rivets shot past him as he ran. He grabbed the gloves without stopping and tried to put them on. They were really huge. Robert fired again at Joey, but he ran
out of rivets. Joey ran to a rope dangling on the outside of the framework and jumped at it. He grabbed it and slid down. Robert threw down the device and hit a
button on the controls. The lift moved down. When Joey got to the ground, he took off. When Robert reached the ground, he ran after Joey.

*********************************************************************

Joey entered a department store with it's lights turned off. He headed straight to the kids clothing department. He grabbed a dark green t-shirt, a pair of black jeans,
a pair of brand new sneakers and a man-made leather jacket. He finally stopped and pulled the rivets from his leg. Robert entered the store, his Glock drawn. He
was holding it up close to his chest with both hands as he crept throw the departments. He entered the kids department and passed several mannequins shaped as
kids on his right. His noticed something and moved forward. He saw something on the ground, but it was too dark to see. One of the mannequins turned it's head
and looked at Robert. He kneeled down and grabbed one of the items. As he held it up to his face, he saw it was the red shorts Joey had on. Then, he collapsed
onto the floor, his gun leaving his hand. Joey was standing above him with a wooden baseball bat. Robert rolled to the left and ended up on his back. When he
opened his eyes, he saw Joey swinging down with the bat. He looked like Yoda did in the preview of SW Episode Two as he swung down with his lightsabre. Joey
connected with Robert's chest with a loud crack. He swung a second, a third, a fourth and a fifth time. Robert groaned in pain. Joey giggled and ran away, taking the
bat with him. Outside, Joey ran across the street. Inside, Robert slowly got up. He sat up on his knees, but he fell forward and caught himself with his hands. His
Glock was right by his right hand and he grabbed the handle. He got his right foot on the floor and staggered as he got up. He turned around and went outside.

When got outside, he saw the sun was rising. Joey was just standing across the street. His hands were in the pockets of his jacket. Robert stopped, looking puzzled.
He slowly walked out into the street, looking left and right. He heard something behind him and turned. he saw a man dressed in a ninja outfit from head to toe. Only
the area around his eye were visible. His arms were crossed in front of his chest. He heard movement to his right and saw a man dressed as a soldier with the word
"ARMY" on his jacket. He looked to his left and there was a construction worker with a large wrench. He was hitting his left palm lightly with it. In front of the ninja,
there was a logger with a large chainsaw. He pulled on the cord and its teeth spun really fast. Between the soldier and the logger was a butcher with a large meat
cleaver. He was dressed in white, his apron all bloodied. Between the ninja and the construction worker was a man dressed in a dark red ceremonial gown and a
wizard's hat. Between the construction worker and the logger was a giant king cobra. Between the soldier and the ninja was wild man with one inch finger nails, long
scraggy hair, a cave man club and breath so bad that when it hit Robert he literally thought he was gonna throw up. Joey walked inside the building across the street
with a smile on his face. He walked to one of the elevators and pushed the up button. The door opened and he got on. The doors closed and he hit 27. He had to
jump to hit it. That was the top floor.

Outside, the eight that surrounded Robert slowly walked toward him. Robert put his gun in the back of his waistband and pulled out a long katana from behind his
right leg. The elevator doors opened and Joey walked out. He headed to a huge office and climbed into the large swivel chair. He pulled out a small jeep with a
white star on the hood and a red flag on the front. left side from his pocket. He moved the toy back and forth, playing on the desk. Down below, the logger charged
Robert with his chainsaw raised. He swung down and Robert blocked him with his katana, his right hand above his left. The chainsaw scrapped loudly and harshly
against the other metal. Both items shook back and forth. Robert let go with his right hand and spun around. He slammed his right elbow into the spine of the logger.
He fell forward, his chainsaw directly below the center of his rib cage. His body jerked as the chainsaw cut into him. The butcher threw his cleaver and Robert
ducked. Surprised, the construction worker got hit in the center of his forehead with the cleaver. He fell to his knees and then dropped to the ground. The wild man
leapt at the construction worker. He cracked his skull open with his club and started eating his brains. Robert made a disgusted look right before the butcher came
up behind him and grabbed him.

Inside the building, Joey was standing at a water cooler getting a drink from one of those cone-shaped cups made of paper. When he finished, he made a loud,
relieved sigh and walked back to the office. Outside, Robert stepped on the butcher's left foot with his. The butcher let go. Robert spun to his right and wrapped his
right arm around the back of the butcher's neck, pulling him forward. As he snapped his neck, the butcher's body jerked up a little and fell to the ground. The soldier
pulled out his sidearm from the holster on his left thigh and fired at Robert. He hit him in his left shoulder. Robert raised his sword up and to his right with his left arm
and threw it at the soldier. It lodged itself in the soldier's throat. He dropped his gun and grabbed his neck. He dropped to his knees, gasping for air. the bullet in
Robert fell to the floor.

The cobra jumped at Robert. He coiled his body around him and met face to face with the man. The cobra leaned its face closer to his. Those flap things were
spread out. Its mouth was open. Their faces were less than a inch apart when Robert vamped out and bit into the cobra face. The right one of his two elongated
canines on his bottom jaw hooked into its left eye as he brought the 6 sharp teeth of his top jaw down into its skull. The cobra's flaps disappeared as he recoiled in
pain, but Robert wouldn't let up. He bit all the way through and ripped a chuck of its head off. The cobra let go of him and fell to the ground dead. The wizard
started chanting quietly. Robert looked at him, but couldn't hear what he was saying. This transparent blue ball of energy appeared in front of him. Inside, it crackled
with white and blue lightning. The sorceror looked at Robert and the ball flew at him. Robert bent backwards at it flew past in front of him. He pulled his gun out with
his left and fired three bullets. The cave man looked up at the shots. His lower face was covered in blood. He grabbed his club and came after Robert. He re-aimed
his gun and fired. The cave man dropped. He turned his head to the right a little and looked at the ninja.

Upstairs, Joey was bringing a small tv into the office. He set it down onto the desk. He plugged the cord into the outlet on the right side of the room. He pushed the
power button and turned the knob a bit. Cartoons appeared on the screen. He sat back down and started laughing. On the street, Robert and the ninja looked at
each other for several seconds. Slowly, he moved to the dead soldier. He was laying partially on his left side. The sword was into his neck up to the hilt. He slowly
pulled it out and stood up. The ninja let his arms slowly fall to his sides and let them hang there loosely. He pulled out two wakizashi swords from behind his legs.
The two fighters stood very still. Then, the ninja charged Robert with blinding speed. Joey was munching on a chocolate bar with his feet on the desk. His right foot
was crossed over his left. On the screen, smoke moved away to show that a brown furred coyote, that was standing like a biped would, was actually hanging in
mid-air. This blue feathered bird sounded like a car horn and looked over the edge of the cliff he was on. The coyote looked down and dropped. His neck
stretched, leaving his head still on the screen, but that too soon fell as well. Joey laughed. The blue bird ran away leaving a trail of color behind him. The coyote was
as flat as a pancake on the ground below. When he stood up, he still looked two-dimensional.

Outside, clanging sounds could be heard, though Joey didn't it because of the tv. The ninja swung down the wakizashi in his right hand. Robert parried, the blade
pointed to his left. NinjaMan thrust his other wakizashi into Robert's abdomen. Grunting, Robert hit him with a right cross. NinjaMan stumbled to his right. Robert
pulled the sword from his body with another grunt. NinjaMan spun around and threw four chinese stars at once at his opponent. Robert moved his torso to his right,
but the final one stuck into the left side of his neck. He reached up with his right and pulled it out.

He looked at NinjaMan and saw the wakizashi he was holding morphed into a japanese katana of average length. NinjaMan leapt into the air. He came down
slashing with his weapon. Robert moved to his left. He raised his blade up and to the left and brought it down, hoping to catch NinjaMan's neck, but NinjaMan
rolled forward and up to his feet. He turned and squared of with Robert. They circled each other. Then, Robert came at him from high on the right, then on the left.
NinjaMan spun and swung low. Robert jumped. NinjaMan bent backward, his left hand touching the ground as he flipped backward, catching Robert in the face
with his right foot.

Surprised, Robert steadied himself. NinjaMan came at Robert high and from the left, then right, then left. He spun around, but Robert block his swing. NinjaMan
spun the other way and Robert caught him. NinjaMan kicked him just below his left knee and spun. Robert bent forward and rolled. He rolled to his feet as
NinjaMan attacked him again. Without turning around, Robert position his blade with both hands behind his left shoulder, then the right as NinjaMan came at him at
high on that side as well. NinjaMan spun to his left and came around with a horizontal slash of his weapon, but Robert bent forward. As NinjaMan continued with his
movement, Robert dropped his blade on the ground. He jumped forward slightly, ending with his palms on the ground and kicking backward with both feet.
NinjaMan staggered backward as Robert flipped forward while picking up his sword. He turned around. He held his sword's handle upside down, but with the
blade still pointing to the sky. NinjaMan leapt at him again, his blade poised above his head. Robert jumped as well and spun, bringing his blade diagonally through
NinjaMan's torso from the lower, right side, all the way through to the upper left portion. He landed facing the same direction he was before he leapt. NinjaMan's
body fell to the ground in front of him. He looked at it for a couple seconds. Then, he slowly looked up at the top floor of the building in front of him with yellow
colored eyes.

Or is it just my own natural progression into a higher level of consciousness that you peeople just can't relate to or even begin to understand. You guys see insanity...I see reality. Now, which one is truely real? How de you define real? Oh, wait. That's The Matrix. I'm about to fall alsepp tyoing this. BVUt I know the true answer and I'll never tell-ll. Some would see it as a mental breakdown, and I can't say that I would blame them....its not so much that you have this battle raging inside of you, that's pretty much normal at your age. Its the detail, and the writing it all down that some people might find a little odd.
Any psychiatric experts on the board? What do you think of VR's state of mind? I'm voting for complete insanity...with drooling! ;)

Without them, you people wouldn't understand how I view it. There is no dialogue. So, I have to have the details.

O'c? I'm going out now to hunt for the elusive texts. Then I have class. I might get to chat about 8 or 9 tonight.
