Disorder Description: this is an extremely rare dysfunction of irregular but nonmalignant proliferation of non-Langerhans histiocytes. The histiocytes exhibit nondestructive phagocytosis of lymphocytes and erythrocytes, infiltrating lymph nodes or extranodal tissue. It most commonly presents as an enormous enlargement of cervical (and much less generally other) lymph nodes with systemic signs of inflammation.
